NYCC & NYAF- River Rush for the Kinect Review

River Rush, one out of three games on Kinect Adventures, which comes free with your Kinect (like Wii Sports comes with your Wii).  Maybe because it isn’t a game people would buy… Well it wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t that good either.  River Rush, as you can see from the video, can be played with either one or two people.  You stand on a raft and maneuver your body to collect as much points as possible. One of my frustrations with this game was the timing.  It’s possible that it might just be the physics of that game specifically because of the raft (or that I suck), but I had to time my jumps a second or two before I wanted to jump in the game.  So it takes a bit a premeditation on your part.

Overall, it is hard for me to judge the Kinect off of River Rush because I feel it wasn’t that great of a game and it doesn’t represent all of Kinect’s possibilities.  In fairness it was one of the “free” games that comes with the Kinect, and we all know from the Wii that there are so much more possibilities in Wii games outside of Tennis, Bowling, Boxing and Baseball.  I think Kinect can be a lot to fun, primarily with other people, if not only with other people.  River Rush… not so much.  So if you want a Kinect, I recommended it, t will take a lot of adjusting to remember that everything your body does controls the Kinect.  If the jury is still out on whether you should get a Kinect, I suggest you try and play it for yourself at a Gamestop, Best Buy or at a friends once it comes out and see for yourself.

Kinect Release Date- Nov. 4th (US)

Oh yeah, when you play make sure you have a big living room!

Zombie Week- Plants vs. Zombies

Me: Whatcha playin?

Brother: Plants vs. Zombies (for the iPod touch)

Me: *laughs* How would Plants ever beat Zombies?! That game sounds dumb.

Brother: *shrugs and continues to play game*

(A Few days later…)

Me: (ridiculously bored waiting to get our taxes done) Are you playing that Plant Zombie game again?

Brother: Yeah this game is awesome.

Me: Hmm *side eye* Let me see for my self.

Brother: *begrudgingly hands me his iPod*

(30 minutes later iPod touch battery dies)

Brother: Toldya so!

…and my life hasn’t been same since.  But seriously this game is so much fun!  I don’t know anyone who has played it and didn’t think it wasn’t great.

Now I’m one of those who never buys iPod touch games or apps, I have tons of “lite” versions because they never interested me enough to buy the full version or I’m just too cheap (except for Sally’s Spa that was fun).  But PvZ (made by PopCap) was worth every 299 pennies that I paid for it, I figured I pay more for my coffee so that’s a good price.  Don’t worry after you beat the game it isn’t over you get fun mini-games to play, quick play, the adventure mode again and in different version you can make your own zombie!

The game is funny also and the difficultly keeps increasing as the levels progress so don’t let the cutesy-ness fool you.  The best part of all is when the (unofficial) Michael Jackson zombie (Thriller style) pops up does a little Thriller dance number for you while resurrecting a dance team of zombies from the ground (see YouTube of it here).  The first time I saw it I was so excited and thought it was one of the greatest things I’ve seen (more dramatics), then the “oh shhii” came because I realized I had more zombies to kill.  But of course all good things must come to an end. The Jackson family wasn’t a fan of MJ being a zombie (even though the game came out before he passed away) so PopCaps just changed the MJ-lookin‘ zombie to a 70’s-lookin‘ zombie.

PvZ is also coming to Xbox 360 for co-op and verses mode I’m not sure how they will do that but it will most likely be all kinds of fun.

Get PvZ:

Alice: Madness Returns

Ten years after the cult hit American McGee’s Alice , he returns with its sequel Alice: Madness Returns. I’m a huge Alice in Wonderland fan and so I’m really excited about this game. I never played the first Alice game by McGee (for the PC only) but hopefully I get a chance to before the new one comes out 2011. The sequel will also be released for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation.

This isn’t your G-rated Alice. It’s bloody, macabre and twisted and I’m sure it will be full of gory greatness! The sequel takes place 10 years after the first game. Alice has been released from an insane asylum and is on a mission to discover the mystery behind her family’s death. McGee describes his version of Wonderland, “[I take] this colorful world and [reinvent] it with psychotic personalities and pervasive insanity.”

Hopefully this reinvention of Alice won’t let me down… My emotional scars are still healing after the last Alice disappointment

E3 2010 Part 1- PlayStation & Xbox 360 Goodies

E3 had a lot going on this year but all the hype revolved around Nintendo and their announcement of the 3DS coming early 2011. I will do a separate post on Nintendo’s E3 goodies.

Microsoft showed off Project Natal the Kinect which is like the Wii minus the Wiimote.  It does a fabulous job of making you look like a complete fool while having tons of fun.  It’s set to be released Nov. 4th 2010.

There’s also the PlayStation Move which looks like it doubles as a sex toy.  If it has any kind of shock vibration-feedback you might have to be 18+ to purchase it… I’m just sayin’.

***Please let me know if any of the release dates are wrong, I blame it on Google.***
