Tattoo Tuesday Featurette- Matt’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ Smaug Tattoo

photo (1)

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Matt Naragon, and I have been geeky as long as I can remember. I am an avid game player, a Mac enthusiast, a dnd lover, and a husband of an equally geeky wife.

What is your geeky tattoo of and why did you get it?

The tattoo is of hobbit origin, and shows us part of the famous map and an image of Smaug lurking around the side. I have always loved Tolkien, and the tattoo just naturally suits me. The tattoo was created by artist Brooks Blanton from Wildman’s Tattoo in Ft Wayne, IN. He did a fantastic job bringing this tattoo to life, and remains one of the most amazing portrait tattooists I have ever seen.

Any plans for future tattoos?

Future plans for the tattoo are to bring Gollum into the mix on the other side of the map, along with slowly migrating down to the stomach with more tasteful Tolkien art.

Are you a fan of anything else in the fantasy genre? If so, what?

I am a big fan of gaming, especially Assassins Creed as of late. I also love Star Wars and things associated with it. Oh, and zombies.

If you were going on an adventure, which 5 Tolkien characters would you take with you?

I would definitely take Boromir as my first pick. Elrond would be useful, and young Bilbo would come as well. It would be a toss up between Fili or Kili for fourth spot, and I could have no other than Gandalf taking up the rear (to always save the day).

If you were on a deserted island what video game, comic/book, movie, TV show would you bring?

I would bring along Skyrim for gaming, as it would last me the longest. The Hobbit would be book of choice, and probably movie of choice as well. The TV show would be Rules of Engagement, I’ve been watching that sitcom lately on Netflix and love it.

Where can we find you on the internet?

I am not on the Internet in force much, but you can usually find me on Facebook or Deviant Art. If not there, lately I have been going crazy planning out the perfect Connor AC3 cosplay outfit.

Tattoo Tuesday Featurette Interview with Kaity

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Kaity: well my name is Kaity and i’m 18. I am a film major and I work as a waitress, i’m not terribly interesting.

What is your tattoo of and why did you get it?

Kaity: Well my tattoo is the inscription on the ring of power from Lord of the Rings. It goes across my stomach and ribs. I got this because Tolkien is one of my favorite authors and I grew up reading his books over and over. They’re really special to me and the symbolism is fantastic. The rings is essentially the main symbol and the basis of the entire story, so that’s why i got it.

Any plans for future tattoos?

Kaity: …I’m getting a freeze frame from the movie The Boondock Saints. But nothing generic like copies of their tattoos… It’s going on my inner left arm.

Who is your favorite Lord of the Rings character?

Kaity: Well in the books, Gandalf is my favorite character. But I will admit, I had a little crush on Orlando Bloom in that blonde Legolas wig from the Peter Jackson films.

Didn’t we all… What are your other favorite fandom’s?

Kaity: Well I’m a big movie geek, so it varies. I really liked House of 1000 Corpses and the Boondock Saints, but recently my vice has been the AMC series The Walking Dead.

Where can we find you in the web?

Kaity: Facebook and I’m also on Youtube: Youtube.com/kaityrantsaboutstuff . But it’s just what it sounds like, it’s like a diary, but again, I’m not terribly interesting.

Sunday Funnies- Tolkien Goes Hipster

The Broship of the Rings is exactly what it sounds like, a funny hipster take on our beloved The Lord of the Rings made by Noelle Stevenson . The Broship is actually an art series she posts on her Tumblr Ginger Haze. Below are a few (okay almost all) of The Broship entries from Noelle and her captions for them.

“Arwen works at the Rivendell Fair-Trade Coffee Shop because of course she does.”

“All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.” – All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter by J. R. Nerdy Jewelry- Book Lover Edition

This post is the first in a series I am doing on Nerdy Jewelry (gamer and computer geeks are next). Two things I compulsively buy are jewelry and books so this is a “kill two birds with one stone” kinda post for me, and I kill a lot of damn birds.

Etsy.com is the (metaphorical) crack house to my jewelry addiction and I don’t see a need for rehab… ever.  Most of these are found on Etsy and with Googles assistance.
