Sunday Funnies- How Games Are Meant To Be Played vs. How You Play Them

My PS3 has turned into a Netflix machine. I’m an ashamed gamer.

NYCC & NYAF- River Rush for the Kinect Review

River Rush, one out of three games on Kinect Adventures, which comes free with your Kinect (like Wii Sports comes with your Wii).  Maybe because it isn’t a game people would buy… Well it wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t that good either.  River Rush, as you can see from the video, can be played with either one or two people.  You stand on a raft and maneuver your body to collect as much points as possible. One of my frustrations with this game was the timing.  It’s possible that it might just be the physics of that game specifically because of the raft (or that I suck), but I had to time my jumps a second or two before I wanted to jump in the game.  So it takes a bit a premeditation on your part.

Overall, it is hard for me to judge the Kinect off of River Rush because I feel it wasn’t that great of a game and it doesn’t represent all of Kinect’s possibilities.  In fairness it was one of the “free” games that comes with the Kinect, and we all know from the Wii that there are so much more possibilities in Wii games outside of Tennis, Bowling, Boxing and Baseball.  I think Kinect can be a lot to fun, primarily with other people, if not only with other people.  River Rush… not so much.  So if you want a Kinect, I recommended it, t will take a lot of adjusting to remember that everything your body does controls the Kinect.  If the jury is still out on whether you should get a Kinect, I suggest you try and play it for yourself at a Gamestop, Best Buy or at a friends once it comes out and see for yourself.

Kinect Release Date- Nov. 4th (US)

Oh yeah, when you play make sure you have a big living room!

E3 2010 Part 2- Nintendo World Domination

Nintendo clearly triumphed at E3 this year.  The Kinect (previously Project Natal) is cool and all and no one really seems to care about the PlayStation Move much.  But we already knew about both of them so all they did at E3 was show us some gameplay.

There were rumors about Nintendo developing a 3DS so (no surprise there), BUT what did get me in a frenzy was the incredibly amazing list of 3DS games.  The release date is up in the air because these guys just can’t seem to get it right.  First it was announced to be released March 2011 but recently I heard October or before Christmas which makes the most sense.

Outside of the handheld realm, Nintendo announced a new Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii.  They also showed us the new The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword which they have been teasing us for almost a year with the concept art.

When I heard rumors of a Super Scribblenauts I wondered what else could they add to the 22,802 words they already had.  One word: ADJECTIVES!!!  To put the cherry on top they also included combo words. Ever seen a “gentlemanly red raptor“? You will also be glad to know everything that was broken in the first Scribblenauts is fixed in the new one.  I’m already giving myself a migraine trying to think of the most random yet extremely amazing adjective word combos for Super Scribblenauts.

Here’s the some of the games coming out on the 3DS that caught my eye:

  • DJ Hero® 3D
  • RESIDENT EVIL® REVELATIONS
  • SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV 3D Edition (name not final)
  • Madden NFL
  • The Sims™ 3

E3 2010 Part 1- PlayStation & Xbox 360 Goodies

E3 had a lot going on this year but all the hype revolved around Nintendo and their announcement of the 3DS coming early 2011. I will do a separate post on Nintendo’s E3 goodies.

Microsoft showed off Project Natal the Kinect which is like the Wii minus the Wiimote.  It does a fabulous job of making you look like a complete fool while having tons of fun.  It’s set to be released Nov. 4th 2010.

There’s also the PlayStation Move which looks like it doubles as a sex toy.  If it has any kind of shock vibration-feedback you might have to be 18+ to purchase it… I’m just sayin’.

***Please let me know if any of the release dates are wrong, I blame it on Google.***
