Picture of the Week- My Neighbor Totoro Christmas

Mona and Nathan made this adorable Totoro Christmas card which I’m featuring as the Picture of the Week.  Christmas is on Saturday and what better way to represent that with everyone’s favorite forest spirit Totoro from Hayao Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro.

You can buy this too-cute-for-words Totoro Christmas card on their Etsy shop Etsy.com/sunshinecupcake and Etsy.com/Alienate

I LOVEHayao Miyazaki and if you have heart and a soul you do too!  For those of you who don’t know Miyazaki (you clearly aren’t from this planet) he is often compared to being the Walt Disney of Japan and his career has spanned over 50 years.  He’s made incredible movies through Studio Ghibli, which he also co-founded.  One of his films, Princess Mononoke, was the highest grossing film in Japan until Titanic trumped it in 1997.  Other prominent films (even though they all are prominent) are Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro,Ponyo and so much more.

Most of his movies have similar themes although very different and imaginative story lines.

“Miyazaki’s films often incorporate recurrent themes, such as humanity’s relationship to nature and technology, and the difficulty of maintaining a pacifist ethic. Reflecting Miyazaki’s feminism, the protagonists of his films are often strong, independent girls or young women. His films are also notable for dispensing with traditional villains in favour of morally ambiguous antagonists presented with redeeming qualities.(wiki)”

If you haven’t seen his movies I hereby declare it your life’s’ mission to buy them, rent them, find them now and indulge yourself in the glorious world of Miyazaki!  But first check out these My Neighbor Totoro tattoos! Oh and Totoro made a cameo in Toy Story 3!

Zombie Week- Corpse Princess

Corpse Princess (Shikabane Hime) Parts 1 & 2 DVD is set to be released Sept. 14th with English Dubs.  Has anyone seen this before, what did you think?  Watch episodes here on FUNimation.

Summary via Mania.com

Plot Summary: Makina is dead, but she can’t let go of this world. She burned to death in a fire started by freaks that wouldn’t stay buried. She knows she doesn’t belong among the living, but that won’t stop her from hunting the rotting remains of those who refuse to die. She’s hell-bent on filling empty graves with the monsters that should be six feet under. Makina is a Shikabane Hime — a Corpse Princess — and it’s her job to finish off the undead leftovers haunting the living.

Another zombie apocalypse anime that I’ve been watching is High School of the Dead. If you can ignore the massive amounts of ecchi it isn’t bad so far.  I watch it on Anime Freak (sub only).
