Girl Gone Geek Reader Submission!

The Avengers Trio above is from my Twitter buddy and Girl Gone Geek reader Alycia Carhart/@MalfoyFangirl:

“Of all the comics I’ve read, Marvel has most appealed to me. I enjoy all their groups (X-Men, Fantastic 4) but The Avengers is my favorite. I got the Iron Man tattoo because he is my favorite superhero. But he was lonely so I decided to add Cap and Thor, my second and third favorites, to balance the art.”    Artist: Josh Hartley, Shop: Guru Tattoo, San Jose, CA

Tattoo Tuesday- Captain America

You didn’t come here to read (if you did let’s make believe), you came here to look at Captain America tattooed into the skins of fangirls and fanboys. Who am I to delay you from doing just that?! Behold… *cue American patriotism*.

Tattoo Tuesday- Green Lantern

Despite your (I assume) ill feelings about the Green Lantern movie, I hope you can still enjoy this permanent body art dedicated to the Green Lantern. At least these Green Lantern tattoos won’t take your money and make you sit in a theater for 114 minutes forcing you to watch an ironically unimaginative movie with CGI overload that takes itself too seriously. (By the way I haven’t seen the movie, I’m just guessing that’s how it was based on the trailers and my twitter timeline.)

Tattoo Tuesday- Tank Girl

Made by Jessica V, Superstition Tattoo, Massapequa, NY [Source:Monster Ink Tattoos NY]

After a long hiatus from Tattoo Tuesday I am returning with a BANG! I see no better way to resurrect Tattoo Tuesday (after it was beaten and tortured by work, grad school and interning) then with Tank Girl! She’s the bad ass of all bad asses! I started reading Tank Girl this past summer and loved it in all its bizarreness and lewdness. However The Walking Dead ate my brains soon after I started Tank Girl and I found it difficult to focus on anything else. I vow to dutifully return to Tank Girl as soon as I find the time and NYPL has the volume I need available.

It’s absolutely necessary to mention that Jamie Hewlett (who has the same birthday as me!) is the brilliant co-creator and orginal artist of Tank Girl which was co-created with Alan Martin. Hewlett is also the co-creator of the virtual band Gorillaz. The current Tank Girl artists are Rufus Dayglo, Ashley Wood, and Mike McMahon.

Tattoo Tuesday- Spawn (Black History Month Series)

Today is the beginning of Black History Month (BHM) and being that I am in fact Black, I plan on doing several posts throughout the month about my favorite and famous black superheros, video game, novel, sci-fi, fantasy and comic book characters. As well as some of my favorite black authors and books. If you have any suggestions, or even Tattoo Tuesday, suggestion please let me know anytime by comments or on twitter @girl_gone_geek!

Starting off BHM with a bang this weeks Tattoo Tuesday features Spawn created by writer/artist Todd McFarlane.

“Al Simmons, once the U.S. government’s greatest soldier and most effective assassin, was mercilessly executed by his own men. Resurrected from the ashes of his own grave in a flawed agreement with the powers of darkness, Simmons is reborn as a creature from the depths of Hell. A Hellspawn. Now Spawn must choose between his life on Earth and his place on a throne in Hell. Spawn is one of the longest-running and most-respected independent comics of all time. (via Spawn.com)”

Now I never read Spawn but I watched the amazing (and very graphic) show on HBO, now that I think about it I was probably way too young to watch that show… Oh well I turned out fine. Enjoy these beautiful Spawn tattoos!

Tattoo Tuesday- Neil Gaiman’s Sandman

This weeks Tattoo Tuesday features Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comic book series.  I found some beautiful tattoos of Dream, The Endless, other characters, quotes and symbols.  I’m currently reading the Sandman series now and think it is pure genius.  It also feeds the ravenous fascination I have about dreams, my obsession with literature and my growing comic book fangirlness all at the same time.  Although I’m not done with the series yet, I could seriously see myself getting a tattoo of a Sandman/Gaiman quote in the future.

Check out previous Tattoo Tuesday’s here.

UPDATE: After @neilhimself RT’ed this post (yes, I fainted!) I got an enormous amount of views which just sent me over the moon!  A lot of you wonderful Sandman fans included links in the comments section below of their own Sandman tattoos which I loved to see.  So I wanted to make sure everyone else looked in the comments section and checked those out as well. There’s some really good ones! I really appreciate everyone adding their tattoo in the comments! Everyone else feel free to share your Sandman ink below!

Tattoo Tuesday- Watchmen

The time has come, the Watchmen said, to talk of many things… wait that’s not how it goes.  Well it is about that time to have one of the best graphic novels, Watchmen, featured on Tattoo Tuesday.  My favorites are Siobhan’s nuke kiss tattoo above from and the Nostalgia perfume bottle, the color is beautiful and it’s girly and geeky at the same time (like me!).  Enjoy fanboys and fangirls!
