Etsy Crush of the Week & Giveaway: Show Pony’s Fantasy Jewelry

show pony etsy shop banner

I’m a jewelry fiend, whether it’s geeky or not. I’ve noticed when it comes to a lot of geek-related jewelry they get an A+ on the geeky part, but miss the mark on the actual quality of the jewelry design. Thankfully, I stumbled across Show Pony on one of my weekly Etsy binges and fell in love. Her  fantasy-themed references already make the items a must-buy, and then her elegant jewelry designs put them over the edge.

I featured Show Pony‘s “Always” necklace on my Harry Potter & Valentine’s Day Jewelry Post. It’s pretty much one of those, “I need this for reasons.” necklaces. It’s a subtle way to show your off Potter pride. I absolutely adore mine!

Shelby also does custom pieces! I had her make a custom Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire cuff for me with the words, “Valar Morghulis”. It came out just as I imagined. It’s thick, but still easily bendable to adjust to any sized wrist. I’m throwing a giveaway with a few lovely items from Show Pony, check out how to win below!

Interview with Shelby of SHOW PONY STORE

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Show Pony- Hunger Games Holding nightlock IIShelby: My name is Shelby Isaac I’m a college student from Maryland, U.S.A. and Etsy is my creative outlet/moneymaker. I have a pet tarantula and a kitten that keep me company while I run my Etsy business.

How long have you been making jewelry?

Shelby: I’ve been making jewelry since 2010, when I opened my Etsy shop.

How did SHOWPONYSTORE come to be?

Shelby: Oddly enough, I started out making my original items out of frustration. My first purchase on Etsy was an overpriced Harry Potter inspired vial necklace. When it arrived, it was broken, leaking through the package, and no “thank you” note was included. I knew I could make something better for a cheaper price, so that’s what I did.

Which have been some of your favorite pieces to make?

Shelby: My “always” doe patronus necklace is my favorite. It’s subtle and still geeky. That’s not always easy to find in jewelry.

Do you have any geeky obsessions? If so what?

Shelby: Any other geeky obsessions… I love Tolkien and Martin. High fantasy is my thing.

What do you think your your patronus be?

Shelby: It would be a shark! A little one. Like a spiny dogfish/mud shark.

If you lived in Westeros, what would your house name, sigil and motto be?

Shelby: I already consider myself to be of House Tyrell, so creating my own house is out of the question. Growing strong!

If you were on a deserted island what video game, comic/book, movie, TV show would you bring?

Shelby: I would bring the Potter series. Television show that I couldn’t live without: Star Trek. The original series.

Where can we find you on the web?

Tattoo Tuesday- Alice in Wonderland

The time has come, the walrus said to feature Alice in Wonderland for Tattoo Tuesday! I absolutely adore everything Wonderland and read it about a elevendy thousand times. Alice needs no further introduction! There are a truckload of Alice tats out there so I tried to narrow it down to some unique takes on Wonderland and its inhabitants. (Can you tell I had a tough time narrowing it down?)

Bridgette says: “I have a tattoo very closely based on the original rocking-horse fly illustration from Through the Looking Glass (1871), the sequel to Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. John Tenniel was the illustrator; these prints were made with woodblocks.” (via Contrairwise)

B says the tattoo was done by Edgar Sick Clown at Old London Road Studios in Kingston Upon Thames, London. (via Contrariwise)

Tattoo Tuesday- Tim Burton

I just adore Tim Burton and it was about time I showed it… with other people’s tattoos!  A the majority of tattoos on the interwebz are from The Nightmare Before Christmas, because that movie is just all kinds of amazing, (and also I have the soundtrack on my iPod) so I tried to balance it out with other Tim themed tats. Enjoy my fellow Burtonians!

Novel-T: Shirts for Lit Lovers

I first saw these Novel-T shirts on Gaming Angels and I fell in love!  Novel-T’s are jersey’s for the all-stars of literature.  There are two teams, the American Canons and the National Puncs.  They have either the author or a character’s name on the back, and an image associated with that author/character.  The shirts cost $24.95 and are made in Brooklyn.  You can order them here and they are available at select Borders Bookstore locations.  Also $1 of every Vonnegut or Trout shirt sold is donated by Novel-T to Doctors Without Borders and  $1 of every other shirt sold is donated by Novel-T to 826NYC.

My favorites are Poe (with the Raven),  Thoreau, Quixote and Gatsby.  I think the Bartleby and Emily Dickinson shirts are funny.  I also think they could have picked a much better image for Alice in Wonderland than a cupcake.  I will probably get one in the future if I can narrow my choice down to one.  I hope they do more of these!  Check out the Novel-T website to see all of the shirts I put a few more I liked in the slideshow below.

What team are you on?

Alice: Madness Returns

Ten years after the cult hit American McGee’s Alice , he returns with its sequel Alice: Madness Returns. I’m a huge Alice in Wonderland fan and so I’m really excited about this game. I never played the first Alice game by McGee (for the PC only) but hopefully I get a chance to before the new one comes out 2011. The sequel will also be released for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation.

This isn’t your G-rated Alice. It’s bloody, macabre and twisted and I’m sure it will be full of gory greatness! The sequel takes place 10 years after the first game. Alice has been released from an insane asylum and is on a mission to discover the mystery behind her family’s death. McGee describes his version of Wonderland, “[I take] this colorful world and [reinvent] it with psychotic personalities and pervasive insanity.”

Hopefully this reinvention of Alice won’t let me down… My emotional scars are still healing after the last Alice disappointment

Check out some concept art below (and more on EA) and the teaser trailer, don’t blink or you’ll miss it!
