Deniath is a members-only flash sale site for pop culture, geek collectibles and merchandise. The deals are actually for 72 hours (even better than 24) and up to 70% off! After a brief hiatus Deniath has relaunched with new brand partnerships, revamped blog and a sweepstakes with Newsarama.
I am personally excited about Deniath. As you well know, when us geeks love, we love hard. And we want to own, rep, display and wear those obsessions we love so dearly but all of that fandom can really start to add up. And this is when Deniath swoops in and saves the day (aka our wallets) like a good superhero should. Because at the end of the day, who doesn’t love a sale?

Girl Gone Geek Interview with Deniath’s CEO and Co-founder Wade Sugiyama:
Girl Gone Geek: What is Deniath’s origin story?
Wade Sugiyama: Prior to Deniath, I worked at WizKids Games, where I had the privilege to work on some amazing games like HeroClix, Pirates of the Cursed Seas, and Star Wars PocketModel TCG. While there, I often worked as an exhibitor at many different consumer conventions like San Diego Comic Con, where I would usually find some new thing to “geek out” on. But, outside of the conventions, it seemed difficult for customers to constantly find new products and services that interested them. In addition, finding something new and cool at a convention was often overwhelming, not to mention an expensive endeavor for a regular consumer.
Then, my partners and I stumbled across private-sale e-commerce and its rapid success in the fashion industry. The model regularly provided customers with brand-specific deals at an entry-level price, making it easier for customers to try different products and learn about new companies that might interest them. We believed that, given the right geek adjustments, we could build a tailored experience that generated the same excitement, while effectively introducing customers to new geek obsessions.
GGG: Where did the name Deniath come from?
WS: What I can tell you is that it is a made-up word. The true meaning behind the name is something that we will be revealing to our members over time. It’s derivation has everything to do with our future plans for the site and what we believe we can build.
We wanted to pick a name that we could ultimately define for ourselves and that wouldn’t explicitly pigeon-hole us into any particular type of site.
As a result, we’ve gotten some pretty interesting guesses regarding its meaning and I’m actually intrigued by others’ interpretations of the name.
What does it make you think of?
WS: Like any business, we really had no idea how the market would react to Deniath when we first launched.
We had an extremely small team with minimal funding and activity started to pick up rapidly; which was wonderful, but honestly we struggled to expand as fast as the business was growing. So, we took some time off to get all our ducks in a row, build bigger and better partnerships, revamp and improve the site, hire an awesome team, and prepare for the true potential of this company.
If you weren’t a member before, I think you’ll find it pretty cool; if you were, you only got a small taste of what we will become.
GGG: Some people may want to know why a membership for the site is necessary?
WS: For many of us, the value of getting a deal or being a part of something is heightened by a sense of exclusivity. We want the Deniath experience to be just for geeks, and we want our members to feel like they are a part of something special. Our members-only experience also enables us and our partners to be more creative and exclusive with our offerings.
That being said, our goal is never to exclude anyone. If you have a friend who is already a member, they can invite you, or you can sign up for the wait list on the site itself and your request should be processed in a few business days.
GGG: Besides catering to geeks, what makes Deniath different from the other deal of the day sites?
WS: Our goal is to become a much more comprehensive and in-depth geek experience rather than just a deal of the day site. Some of the beginning elements of that include our newly revamped blog, brand specific deals, and our belief in excellent customer service. Upcoming additions to the experience will include a mobile app, Deniath coupon deals, and Deniath Member Services. We want our members to feel like they are a part of something and that they are listened to and cared for. We’ve spent an enormous amount of time on the relaunch and we look forward to both our older members enjoying the changes and captivating an entire new audience as our community grows!
GGG: What do you see for the future of Deniath?
WS: We envision Deniath evolving into the ultimate geek experience! Our deals are simply the first step to making that a reality. Over time, we will build the ultimate geek experience, piece by piece, collectively with our members. For now, that’s all we can really say about what we will become. There are a lot of different projects and initiatives in the works, and as we are able to announce them we most definitely will!
