I discovered Mike’s Etsy shop, MiCrochets when I did the post The Most Adorable Crocheted Video Game Characters. I fell in love with his shop and his creative way of making crocheted sackboy and sackgirl characters from Little Big Planet. Mike even does custom sackboys and sackgirls so you can conquer your not-so-secret desire of owning a sackboy or sackgirl version of yourself.
You already know which one is my favorite, I didn’t know David Tennant could get any cuter until I saw this Tenth Doctor sackboy!

Interview with Mike from MiCrochets:
Girl Gone Geek: Can you tell us a bit about yourself? How long have you been crocheting and how did you get into it?
Mike: I am a large tattooed father of two boys. I have an attitude of “I can do that.”. When my youngest wanted a sackboy I checked around and Little Big Planet didn’t make one at the time so I thought “I can do that.”. It took me about a month to figure out how to crochet via the internet and off I went. First I did the tutor on youtube and my son was happy. Then it was daddy can you make me this and daddy can you make me that. Since I was self-taught and didn’t know how to read patterns I learned to create as I went along. So when my older son wanted his own sackboy I was ready to make my own design with working arms and legs (he wanted an action figure).
GGG: Tell us MiCrochets origin story?
M: One day while my son was playing at the park someone asked me if I sold the toy I was working on. I think I laughed. It wasn’t until I visited a yarn store that I realized I was good enough. The owner loved everything I had crocheted and would have taken them all if my son wasn’t there yelling these are mine! A week later someone approached me at the park again and asked if I sold on Etsy, I didn’t even know people sold hand-made online much less somewhere as cool as Etsy. I came up with the name MiCrochets by combining my name “Mike” with what I do “Crochets”.
GGG: How long on average does it take you to make a sackboy/sackgirl?
M: Depending on the difficulty 8-20 hours.
GGG: Do you have any funny crocheting stories?
M: Most local yarn shops are used to me now, but whenever I visit a new one I usually get looks like I am lost.
GGG: Are there any characters you haven’t made yet and can’t wait to create?
M: Death from the Sandman series, or Skeeve and friends from Robert Asprin’s Myth series.
GGG: Is there a personal favorite doll you’ve created that it was hard to part with when sold?
M: Almost all of them. I keep thinking I won’t be able to do it again but that’s just nerves.
GGG: Do you have any other geeky obsessions?
M: I play Magic the Gathering the card game at tournaments.
GGG: If you were on a deserted island what video game, comic/book, movie, TV show would you bring? (this deserted island has electricity)
M: LBP, Groo/Abarat, Titus (the Anthony Hopkins one), Wonderfalls
GGG: Where can we find you in the internets?
