It was love at first bite when I saw the Piranha Plant earrings Elizabeth’s Kohn made. As I browsed her Etsy shop Lizzglizz I saw that the coolness didn’t stop there. Her shop is filled with impeccably crafted jewelry with everything from Kirby, Adventure Time, Nyan cat and more. Check out the interview I had with Liz below!
Interview with Elizabeth Kohn of Lizzglizz:
Girl Gone Geek: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Elizabeth Kohn: I love creativity and fun. I grew up with three older brothers so games were a big part of my life.
GGG: How long have you been making jewelry?
EK: I made jewelry for fun for about 4 years but it never included the games and shows. I was sculpting and tried making some characters. I thought it would be fun to wear my creations and put sculpting and jewelry making together. I made my first piece and I LOVED it!
GGG: What is LizGlizz’s origin story?
EK: I got feedback from my friends and family telling me I need to make a shop. I really liked the idea of people being able to enjoy my creations so I gave it a try. I never expected the great response I got :) it was so great hearing that people really liked them.
EK: I was working late and had put one of my nyan cat necklaces in the oven, I started getting tired so went to bed. I woke up 6 hours later and well nyan cat was no more. It was quite tragic but my cousin took a liking to the charred little guy and brought him home.
GGG: Which have been some of your favorite pieces to make?
EK: The Piranha Plants are quite fun but I love making very small pieces like the Shy Guys and Goombas the smaller they are the cuter the get!
GGG: I see you have jewelry from Adventure Time, Nintendo, Pokémon and more. What made you want to make jewelry out of those shows and games in particular?
EK: Those are the shows and games that were my first picks or my favorites although I love so many games and shows that its hard to choose which ones to add next. Anytime I make a new item I have to either play the game or watch the show to get me in the mode, it’s just one of the perks of the job I guess.
EK: I love so many things it really hard to choose, I’m kinda all over the place I definitely love steam-punk, futuristic, pirates, even hosted a masquerade party at one time. I really love costumes that may be something I could bring to my shop one day.
GGG: If you were on a deserted island what video game, comic/book, movie, TV show would you bring? (it’s a magic island with electricity)
EK: This is a hard one however I would have to say Harvest Moon Nintendo 64, if any ones never played it this game is awesome and I believe to be the perfect deserted island with magic electricity game you build a farm up make friends raise animals have a dog and choose a girl to woo to be your wife. I definitely would not feel alone with that.
