Picture of the Week- Beautiful and Colorful Amy Pond Fan Art

While getting my daily sh*ts and giggles at Derptor Who- Questionable Doctor Who Fan Art Tumblr I found this absolutely gorgeous piece made by Carrie-ko on one of their Good Art Friday posts. The colors are captivating and Amy looks so delicate and peaceful floating in space it really illustrates science-fantasy. This also reminds me of the beginning of “The Beast Below” from Season 5. Can you spot the Doctor in the picture?

Carrie-ko titled this piece “In the Shadow of Your Heart” and was inspired by Florence + The Machine’s “Cosmic Love” which was the trailer music for Season 5. Here’s what she had to say about the connection between the song and DW, “I think it accurately reflects the bond (romantic or not) that Amy and the Doctor share, particularly as it was in Series 5… I do want Amy and Rory to be happy together, more than anything. I just find Amy and Eleven’s relationship more fascinating in general.” For this piece Carrie-ko used “pencils, watercolors (fine and opaque), calligraphy ink, and Copics (used minimally) on hot press watercolor paper.”

Lyrics from Florence + The Machine’s “Cosmic Love”:

I took the stars from my eyes and then I made a map
I knew that somehow I could find my way back
Then I heard your heart beating
You were in the darkness, too

So I stayed in the darkness with you

Although I do find myself liking Mr. Pond more than Mrs. Pond in Season 6, which is partly due to him having more of a prominent role and being a general companion not like Amy’s tag-a-long ( and be just being brilliant in general). However, I do appreciate having a companion in Doctor Who that isn’t perfect. Amy is young and her decisions and actions reflect that. I like Amy, but I love Rory. Is it the Fall yet?!

I adore Carrie-ko‘s use of color and lines it makes your imagination go wild! Check out some of her artwork below and her Deviant Art and Tumblr. Click on the images to enlarge.
